Corrugated packaging refers to a type of material used for packaging that is made up of three layers of paper – an inside liner, an outside liner, and a ruffled or corrugated inner layer known as the fluting. While often used interchangeably, cardboard and corrugated are not the same. Cardboard typically refers to a heavy-duty paper stock that’s thicker than regular paper. Non-corrugated packaging refers to any packaging solution that doesn’t utilize the fluted, three-layer design of corrugated materials. Examples include solid cardboard boxes, plastic containers, bags, and wrappers. While non-corrugated packaging can be useful for certain applications, it generally doesn’t offer the same level of strength and protection as corrugated packaging.
